The "Miami Vice Look" became popular with the popularity of the hit television show Miami Vice, starring Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas. Miami Vice revolved around the life and crime-solving duties of two fashion-forward cops, played by Johnson and Thomas.
The "Miami Vice Look" consisted of pastel colors, pastel t-shirts with pastel suit jackets, shoes with no socks, cotton pants, etc. Let's not forget the ever-present shadow of stubble on Mr. Johnson that was next-to-impossible for the average man to perfect.
The "Miami Vice Look" was popular among some preppies and the older, "Yuppie" crowd in the 80s.
