Many years ago in the lands of the Nile, lived the mighty
ZOSER, Pharaoh of all Egypt.
The people worshipped ZOSER as a mighty god. They bestowed
their faith and trust upon him so that he would deliver to
them the fruits of the land.
All was well, until in the tenth year of his reign, the
Nile did not rise. The fields and plains of Egypt were
not floded with he lif-giving waters, and the usual
abundancy of crops were no more. The lands were plunged
into famine.
ZOSER tried to reassure his kingdom and at first, the
people were not greatly troubled and they managed to
urvive on the grain reserves that were stored in the
royal granaries, a gift
to the people, from the Pharaoh himself.
However, after several years of misery and famine,
Pharaoh ZOSER was forced to find a solution, and
quickly, for the angry citizens could take no more
and were soon gathering outside his temple in Memphis.
They prayed to him that he might save them all from death.
Despite many great sacrifices to the gods, the famine
spread. Pharaoh ZOSER could do nothing else but turn
to IMHOTEP the Wise for a solution.
"Why do the gods not here me?" asked Pharaoh ZOSER.
"Oh Pharaoh," replied IMHOTEP, "Life, strength and
health be to you. I cannot answer you from my own
wisdom, but grant me passage to the land of Thebes
to seek guidance from THOTH, in whom is all knowledge.
For in the hands of a beautiful princess are the sacred
books, called the SOULS of RA. It may be that THOTH,
the god of wisdom, will guide me to the books, in which
is the precious secret of the Nile, whose life-giving
waters will once again make the barren lands fertile."
With his passage granted, IMHOTEP stepped forth unto the distact lands that would be sought with many dangers. The wrath of gods, neglected during the famine and the crossing of the hostile lands of the JAWI NOMADS would be inevitable. |
