Ms. Crocker

English II

SYLLABUS

10th grade English is an exciting time.  You have 9th grade English as a basis of knowledge, so we now have a chance to delve even deeper into the literature for a more complex understanding of the material.

As you move through life, your ability to read, comprehend and communicate competently will remain vital.  My goal is to connect what we do in class to the outside world.  This will be achieved through bringing in guest speakers as well as looking at literature of the past and comparing it with the present.

Our emphasis will be on reading and comprehension as well as the development of writing skills.  We will use the blue text books as well as incorporate outside sources such as periodicals, novels, and the Internet.

A reminder about grading:

Tests-20%

Quizzes-20%

Classwork/Participation-20%

Homework-20%

Essays-20%

The rationale behind these percentages is that everyone has certain areas where they are strongest and weakest.  Some people are great at taking tests while others are great at writing essays.  By giving equal weight to each area, no one will be too harshly penalized for areas that are more difficult for them.

*quizzes will be both announced and unannounced
