History!

The Syrian Hamster or otherwise known as the golden hamster was first discribed by G.R Waterhouse in 1839.
Although, the first time any one caught a group of hamsters was in 1930. They were caught by Professor I Aharoni who was a zoologist in Jeruslum at that time. He caught them near Alleppo in Syria (Ergo the name is Syrain Hamster). The hamsters were found in a burrow which had a mother and 12 young. When the hamsters were transported into captivity only 3 of the 12 survived. By 1938 hamsters had arrived in the U.S.A and after World War 2, Syrian hamsters were brought back to Europe for research.
After that hamsters multiplyed and over the years. They soon became one of the most popular domestic pets in the world. There are a variety of hamsters like Albinos, Dwarfs and Chinese.
