POLICE
reported yesterday that they were investigating two
armed robberies in the region that took place on
Thursday.
The
police said in the first robbery the gasolene station
at Port Mourant owned by Pamela Kissoon was robbed at
02:30 h Thursday by three gunmen.
Watchmen
Michael Dhanraj and Kobeer Sewkumar were on duty when
the men confronted them with guns, handcuffed them
together and locked them in a room, police said.
Cops
said robbers then broke into the main office and stole
an undisclosed amount of money and escaped.
In
the second robbery businessman Azim Bacchus, of Fyrish,
Corentyne, was robbed at 21:00 h also on Thursday by
three gunmen.
Police
said Bacchus had just returned home and was parking
his vehicle when he was confronted by the men who
stuck him up and demanded cash and jewellery.
Two
of the three bandits stood guard over him while the
other confronted his wife, Bibi Hazrat, who put up
some resistance during which she was shot on her left
thigh.
The
victims handed over $100,000 in cash and a cellular
phone, police said.
The
bandits fired several shots in the air while making
their escape.
Hazrat
was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital for medical
attention and was admitted.
Her
condition is reportedly stable.
Police
said they visited the scene and recovered six spent
.32 shells.
