SLEEPAWAY SEQUELS COMING TO DVD!
the EXCLUSIVE scoop from Director Michael Simpson

In an exclusive first interview with SleepawayCampMovies.Com, director Michael A. Simpson confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Anchor Bay Entertainment to release Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers and Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland on DVD in the fall of 2002.

"I am delighted to know that a new generation of fans will be able to enjoy these movies," Simpson said. "I want to especially thank Jeff Hayes, John Klyza and the great fans at SleepawayCampMovies.Com for helping make this possible.

"Jeff was the person who first contacted me and put me in touch with Anchor Bay. And John's first-rate, strikingly original work for SleepawayCampMovies.Com has been instrumental in making it the premiere SC fan site on the web. The fans' enthusiastic interest in seeing these films come out on DVD gave Anchor confidence to invest the money necessary to bring them into the digital age in first-rate condition."

Simpson stated that the DVDs will be created from low contrast prints struck from the original negatives which were recently discovered in pristine condition at CineFilm Lab in Atlanta, Georgia. This process will allow for the best possible look for the movies. The DVD releases will feature the original versions of the movies approved by Simpson and will not contain the unauthorized edits made in some subsequent VHS releases of SC2&3 in international markets.

"Fans can be assured that the DVD releases of Sleepaway Camp 2&3 will not feature additional cuts like the first Sleepaway Camp DVD did," Simpson stated. "I want the fans to enjoy these movies in all their rigor mortis glory the way they were intended to be seen."

Additionally, the soundtracks for SC2&3 will be transferred from the original analog masters and will be digitally enhanced.

The DVDs for Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers and Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland will be released for the 2002 Halloween season. A live, on-line chat with the director and stars is being planned to celebrate the release of the DVDs and will be hosted exclusively by SleepawayCampMovies.Com.

Details regarding the DVD bonus features are still being worked out but are expected to include:
* An exclusive 30-minute documentary featuring never-before-seen footage of the making of SC2 & SC3
* Director's Commentary
* Cast Interviews
* Original Press Kit Photos
* A Gallery featuring cover art of the many international versions of the movies
* Additional music not available in the original movies
* and much more

"I believe the behind-the-scenes documentary will be of particular interest to fans," Simpson noted. "It shows rehearsals for several key scenes including the infamous Mac Truck sequence in the opening of SC3. It also gives you a real feel for what it was like on the set during the production of the movies."

The DVDs may contain another surprise for fans: music from Simpson's music group, Ravenstone. Predating both the B-52's and R.E.M., this 70's-era rock band is considered an early progenitor of the legendary Athens music scene. "Many SC fans have asked about hearing music from Ravenstone, the band I played with for many years," Simpson said. "We're currently discussing releasing one or two songs as a bonus with the DVDs." The tracks are from the group's forthcoming EP, "In Dog Years..." which is currently being recorded at Atlanta's Cedarloft Studios for release in 2002. The release will feature all new material from the band's original lineup.

Anchor Bay's DVDs of Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 should prove easier to locate than the films' previous forays onto digital media. Laserdiscs for the two movies were released by Nelson Entertainment in '88 and '89 but are now out of print, extremely rare and sell to collectors for top dollar. The VHS versions are also out of print and difficult to find. In recent years, E-Bay has created a thriving cottage industry selling videos and merchandise of the sequels. A limited number of the Nelson Entertainment videos which were signed by the director are now considered hot collector items.

The two made-in-Georgia SC sequels have attained international cult status with a loyal fan base attracted to their dark humor and imaginative gore effects. Numerous fan web sites devoted to the franchise have sprung up over the last several years.
