Traditional
roller derby is played on a banked hardwood track which is 100-200ft around,
edged with hand rails. Permanent tracks are very scarce. A standard 'portable'
can be found at Kezar Pavillion in Golden Gate Park, SF.
There are numerous indoor rinks in the UK. Although flat they are an ideal size for a derby style sport and could be marked out as practise areas. With new advances in technology 'portable tracks' can be used in Gym areas or basketball courts, but are very expensive. Cycling tracks are a good option for outdoor training provided you can get on them. Examples are: Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh - 250m board Cleveland County Stadium, Middlesborough. Palmer Park Cycle Track, Reading. Brighton Velodrome - 540m tarmac. Indoor velodromes could be used for extreme skating. |
