The island of Oaxen

Oaxen is a small rocky island 2km x 0.5km, reached by a small car ferry from the island of Mörkö, which itself is located near to Södertälje. It is still evident around the island that limestone was quarried here.

This industry is no more, having ceased in 1974. It is possible to go into the old kiln, and examine old artifacts from the past. The island has also a display of unusual flowers. If you are hungry you can visit the Skärgårdskrog restaurant, where one of Swedens most famous chef prepares local cuisine. It is also possible to rent an appartment on the island.
