PRESERVE YOUR MEMORIES
ON DVD
Did you know that all of the home movies you shot on your camcorder will
eventually fade with time? Video tapes are made from magnetic particles
that will slowly degrade.
We offer a permanent and inexpensive way to maintain the quality of your
home movies by transferring them to DVD. We will also make as many copies
as you want so you can share them with your family and friends.
We use professionial
real-time hardware encoders to guarantee you the highest posssible quality
results
At Tape on DVD, we
take your favorite video segments and transfer them onto a single DVD...
up to 120 minutes of high-quality video that will not degrade over time.
The following are the steps you should follow in order to preserve those
precious video memories permanently. Additional hints can be found on
our Preparing Your Video page.
Videotape formats accepted are VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, Mini DV, 8mm, and HI-8.
We recommend a maximum of 120 minutes of video footage can be transferred
onto a single DVD.
Additional time can
be added at an additional charge, a decrease in quality and a degradation
in performance.
If you do not
wish to transfer an entire videotape onto a DVD observe the following
steps:
- Review your videotape(s)
to decide which scenes you would like on your completed DVD.
- Indicate the "counter
start" and "counter end" readings on the order form (make
sure that when you take the readings on your player, the tape is first
fully rewound and the counter is reset to 0:00:00).
- Indicate titles
you wish for each segment. There can be up to 20 segments on a single
DVD and the title will be accessible from the menu that appears when
your DVD is inserted into your player. Use additional order form(s)
if required.
- You may wish to
include a photo that you would like to appear on the cover of your DVD
storage case.
We will return your original video(s) with your completed DVD production.
All productions receive a custom storage case complete with your title
and menu screen image.
- Please indicate
your e-mail address and/or telephone number on the order form in case
we need to contact you with questions regarding your order.
The basic DVD transfer
price includes:
Transferring from a single source video tape. There is an additional charge
if you use more video tapes. Each additional tape will include an additional
chapter mark.
Up to 120 minutes of video in length.

Compatibility
We are recording your movies on DVD-R discs. Most new DVD players are
able to play these discs without any problem. Some older models, however,
do not comply with new standards and they will not play our DVD-R discs.
Below is the list of some DVD players which we know are incompatible.
This list is not complete as there are new players being released daily.
If you are not sure
if your player can read DVD-R discs, e-mail us at: info@tapeondvd.co.uk and
we will try to find the information about your model. If your machine
is over 2 years old it is unlikely that it will work. This list is not
complete and we only guarantee that it will work if you first test your
machine with our test disc. If there is any question. Upon receipt of
your order we will send you out a test DVD to try on your machine. If
the DVD does not work on your machine we can cancel your order and refund
your money.
If your DVD player is on the list below we recommend that you do not place
an order with us.

a lifetime with DVD.
Corporate sales and

or transfer sales presentation videos to DVD - An excellent way to make
a major impression on your prospective clients.
How is DVD different from VHS?
DVD video provides
viewers with superior video images that are twice as clear as VHS videotape.
DVD video technology uses up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution for
DVD video, vs. 240 lines of horizontal resolution for VHS, which results
in noticeably sharper pictures.
How long will DVD
video discs last without the video image degrading?
Unlike videotapes,
DVD video discs do not deteriorate over time or wear out from excessive
use. The video playback on DVD is the same the 2000th time played back
as the first. When handled with reasonable care (similar to an audio CD),
the DVD has a life expectancy of 100+ years.
How will the quality
of my DVD compare to my tape?
The quality of the
output is usually slightly higher than your tape. Although we do not perform
any additional cleaning the digital quantization and our high end equipment
brings some noise filtering. Of course the high the quality the original
the better the final output.
Will my original
tape be sent back to me?
Yes, you will receive
your tape(s) packaged with your DVD.
How much video
can fit on a single DVD?
2 hours of high quality
video will fit onto a single DVD although more can be fit on but with
a significant degradation of quality.
What if my tape
is longer than 120 minutes?
We recommend using
two or more disks however we can put up to 6 hours on one DVD. This will
degrade the quality of your video because of of the compression used.
Typically we would recommend using 2 or more DVDs in this case. However,
there are some cases where the original quality is not very good and super
high quality might not be an issue. In that case please contact us at
1-888-6CDROMS for more information.
What Are "Chapters"
and How Do You Use Them To Make My DVD Even Better?
Think of chapter points
as "book marks" in your DVD. You will be able to select and
instantly access the segments marked by chapter points simply by selecting
them on the menu screen. A fantastic benefit over videotape.... no waiting
for rewinding or fast forwarding. You also may choose to let your entire
DVD play straight though from the main menu screen.
Can recorded DVDs
be played on my DVD player?
Most DVD players can play recorded DVDs. About 90% of players available
on the market are DVD-R compatible. Tape on DVD maintains a list of DVD
players which are known to be incompatible. This list however can not
possibly be 100% accurate because new models are released and we can not
possibly test everyone. If there is any doubt that your player will not
play a DVD-R we recommend you testing your player with our test DVD. We
can not be held responsible for compatibility problems if you have not
tested your player with our test DVD-R first. Please read our page on
DVD-R Compatibility.
Can I send my copyrighted movies to be put on DVD?
No, please do not send any copyrighted or X-rated material.
What Video Formats Are Accepted?
We accept VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, HI-8, Digital 8, and Mini DV videotapes.
Should I Submit Original Copy Videos?
Yes. You may wish to make a copy and forward the original(s) for transfer
to DVD. Original copies provide much better quality.
What Can I Expect For Turnaround Time?
We generally ship out completed DVD productions within 5-7 days. This
time period is subject to increase at peak times of the year.
There can be up to 10 segments on a single DVD and will be accessible
from the menu that appears when your DVD is inserted into your players.
Here are some recommendations that will help you preserve those precious
video memories
- permanently. Additional
hints can be found on our Preparing Your Video page.
