To Bandit
Cat’s quite happy to be just cat
No expectations and that is that
Lazing around in the shade all day
It’s his world, and that’s okay
Not expected to follow suit
Becoming a sheep along the route
Just being himself is all he needs
He eats, he sleeps, he purrs, he feeds
No, cat’s just cat, a joyful thing
To be yourself, to purr and sing
Laze all day in the shadow of light
Laze all day and prowl all night
Yes, he’s a loner; he’s by himself
But he’s at the best of health
Companions he has, but just when he wants
He is the utmost of elegance
Dainty paws, he cleans his face
Spot of dirt, but no disgrace
‘Cos cat is cat, he’s just him
Is being yourself really a sin?
Bandit is gone, but not forever
We’ll all be in heaven together
He’ll be waiting for us to come
Just like he used to when we came home
Can’t believe that he’s really gone
Since he’s been there all along
We’re going to miss him night and day
But never we’ll say ‘He died today’
‘Cos though he’s gone, he’s still around
Memories of Bandi can be found
On ‘his’ chair or behind the door
Or in the middle of the kitchen floor
So you see, he’s really here
Our Bandi-Scrandi kitty dear
In our hearts and minds forever
Could we forget him? No, never
But for now, we’ll let him go
It’s not that hard, ‘cos we all know
We’ll be back with him again
We’ll see Bandi in the end.
