Daddy Dear
I’ve grown up tall to make him proud
But he’s so far away
And all my small achievements
Mean nothing to him these days.
He doesn’t understand how much
I need to hear his praise
And when he comes to visit
All I want is for him to stay.
When I’m in the paper
Or I win a special prize
The only thing I’d like to see
Is pride in my dad’s eyes.
His pride and joy is what I am,
His little pride and joy
But now my brother’s over there
He’s got his little boy.
He doesn’t even know me
I live so far away
He says he’d like to come back home
And get a job some day.
But time and time again he tried
It seems it’s all in vain.
I’m waiting for the day now
That my dad forgets my name.
