Professional experience 10/02 – 6/03, Timber Point Elementary    Byron, CA

Regular 3rd Grade Teacher

  • Successfully took over a 3rd grade class at Timber Point Elementary and led students to high levels of academic achievement.
  • The majority of students were reading at a fourth or fifth grade level by March according to a Rigby running record assessment kit.
  • Developed two web sites and pioneered corresponding units in math and science.   • Developed music program that teaches musical thinking skills of a far higher order than those of conventional music programs. Students apply musical concepts that are consistent with state standards to compose many contemporary forms of music. Students are then allowed to burn these music projects to make their own CDs
  • This approach has been successfully used with students as young as 6 years old to compose music.

Long Term Opportunity Class Sub

  • Selected to teach the "Opportunity Class." This is a last opportunity for education for 12 junior high students in Pleasanton Schools. This was arguably the most challenging class in the district for the 2001/2002 school year.

  • Successfully taught the fourth and fifth multiple subject "Treasure Chest" class.
  • Taught the third and fourth Math and Science Class. 
  • Saw most students double their assessment scores by the end of the math intervention program.

  • Taught the S.E.D. class for 70 days. (This was arguably the most challenging class in the entire district for the 2000/2001 school year. It was a collaborative program for the most severely emotionally disturbed students in three districts.) 
  • Assisted in major socialization advancements with a student with Asperger's Syndrome
  • Calmly and confidently handled adverse situations and violent outbursts.

Music Experience:

Mr. Carson has worked with and led many music groups. He has participated in a choral group that has been recorded on the famous Veggie Tales children's video series and has participated in productions accompanied by portions of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has played as a paid musician with a local band named Fraction of a Penny that has played in many venues across California and once in South Africa. Mr. Carson also has live recording experience working for Phil Edwards Recording.
