Neopets Tips

Tips and Hints for Neopets
by redhaiku

So you want to learn how to use your account better than before, right? While you meet friends you can accomplish many things, whether your goal is earning money, upping your pets' stats, or collecting items! Here are some tips you can use...

1. Quests. Learn what ones are a waste of time. For example, some of the quests take so much money, that you get nothing in return. You can do quests like:
- faerie employment agency
- kitchen quests
- snowfaerie quests
- brain tree/esophager quests - Go to tree then esophager twice to get Brain Tree's answer.
- witch quest
Generally, the witch's quest is a waste of money. The best are the snow faerie quests, but make sure that you are not paying more than 2000 np, or even 1000 to get the items. And what about Random Faerie Quests? Do all of those, if possible, except those for the Earth faerie. She'll just feed your pets. Create an alternate account, because you won't be able to use the shop wiz at this time... or ask people in the chat or at the guild.

2. Wheels of excitement and mediocrity. Use them. You win more than you lose, and you get a chance for some good stuff. Your pets will heal, use the springs. **Put your items into your safety deposit box before playing, as the pant devil can steal them!!!**

3. Free stuff. Every day, you should go to these places. Many of them are once a day, and *if you use another account, you will be frozen.* I'll write if you can use them more than once a day.
- Tombola - every player's best friend. You always get something.
- Coltzan's Shrine - You usually get something, even if it just heals your pet.
- Healing Springs - Can be used several times a day, sometimes you even get potions!
- The Bank! - Make an account, store your money there and collect interest every day.
- Free omelette - Delicious eggy goodness... free every day!
- Fruit machine - People often win!
- The Snowager! - Sleeps several times a day. Go when he's sleeping and cash in... but if he wakes up you may get hurt...
- Poor? Then go to the Soup kitchen. Eat 'til yer full, every time! Also good for secondary accounts where you don't want to spend time and money feeding the pets.

4. Easy to get Items.
- Play the treasure hunt using the help list located in the scrolls. Boring but easy, and you are guaranteed a map piece... worth at least 2500.

5. Sick Pet?
After looking up what your pets have at the Hospital, here are ways you can get ahold of the meds needed to heal them.
a. Try the wheel of excitement, it sometimes heals pets. If not, you may get some cash.
b. Next try the healing springs... you never know, and it doesn't do any harm.
c. Cheap illness or expensive? If it's less than 200 np, just buy the meds or see "d." If expensive, see "d" or preferably see "e."
d. If you've tried everything you can, ask the guild pharmacy and they will heal your pet for free.
e. Expensive disease? Maybe it needs extra thick goggles, or, heaven forbid, flat-u-less. Here's a way to cure every disease for under 350 np. Buy a "poisonous mushroom" for about 300 np and feed it to your pet... I know, I know, but you have to be cruel to be kind. Then, feed it some "neopox pizza," worth about 20 np. All better, without costing you a fortune.

6. Hints on the Shops
-Buy low, sell higher. Make sure your prices are always some of the lowest on the wiz. You can achieve this by buying your items at the auctions or shops that have it too cheap by accident. You can even put your price 1 np under the general price, so that people look at yours first. There's no point in having something in your shop that you'll never sell because it is priced 10 np too high.
- Don't have too big a shop with complicated html. Rather than wait for it to download, people will hit the back browser.
- To get rid of an item you know you are selling at a good price, type it onto the chat pages under shop ads and people will snatch it up.
- Deal in *hot* items like battledome items, chocolate, paintbrushes, neggs, etc. Everyone wants the hot items and will look for them. Lukewarm items are things like furniture and most food items, because all people will buy them but most aren't actively looking for them. Cold items, like trading cards and usuki items are often difficult to sell unless you can find a collector who needs that specific item.
- Keep an eye on the news pages - you can make a lot of money buying things when they just come out. Sell them then, because they will drop and settle at their actual prices. For example, when dubloons came out, people were selling them at 10 and 12 thousand np. Now they are worth about 2000.
- Don't have too many of one item in your shop. I know many people who will buy the item from a person who is selling one for 320 np over someone who is selling 37 for 315 np. Keep them in your deposit box and add them later. Exception - map pieces. The more you have, the easier it is for people to make theirs complete. They will buy their whole map there to save effort.
- Use the Neopian shops, you can bargain in them. If there is an item for 300 np in a shop that registers on the shop wiz as 290 np, buy the shop one. Generally, you can bargain it down to less than 180 np. Then you can resell it for 280 - cheaper than the other shops but with a profit for yourself. You can also find expensive items for cheap if you go at the restock times... ie faeries, neggs.
- When using the shop wiz *refresh the page!!!* I cannot stress this enough! I found someone selling two chocolate covered peanuts today for 15 np - they're worth 6000 np apiece. It also gives you the correct lowest price, preventing you from making mistakes.
- USE THE SHOP WIZ!!! Don't just assume the price unless you KNOW it... and prices can change! People are only too willing to take advantage of your mistake - I bet the person selling the peanuts kicks himself when he finds out what he sold.

7. Slow computer? Get the most out of the game.
- Don't bother with the Money Tree - you will never get an item. All the people with faster computers will have already snatched them up.
- Use the multi-tap system to make things faster. If you buy an item in a store, it will reload automatically, but can take a while if you have a slow computer. *You can continue to buy items after the first one, it is only when you pause for a minute that it will refresh.* Also use this to play with your pets (keep pressing the button after you choose which one to play with) or feed them with omelette (click it three times or more to feed a hungry pet).

8. The most important rule - DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD!!!
-If you click on an item and go to a sign in page, use the backbutton.
-If you are asked for your pass so they can use an "np generator" on your page, do not give it to them.
- Don't give people money or items for millionaire advice, it's all pretty similar to what you see above you. People are willing to advice you for free, just ask guild members :).
- Don't give it out to friends, unless you are positive they are loyal. Otherwise, you'll log back on and your account will be empty.
- If other people support the potential scammer, or he says "ask so and so" don't bother. They probably are the scammer's other accounts.

All in all, the most important thing is to have fun and meet people!
