The Black Rooster is on every bottle of Chianti Classico. |
Located only an hour from Florence and situated in the midst of forests and rolling hills planted in vineyards and olive groves, Badia a Coltibuono is one of Tuscany's most beautiful estates. Badia is an eleventh century monastery, the site of the first documented Chianti wine. It sits high on a Tuscan hill in in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine district. This wonderful property has a commanding view over two thousand acres of vast woods and forests, olive groves, vineyards and ancient farmhouses. It is the home of Lorenza de Medici, whose numerous books on Italian gastronomy have been published worldwide. She is both hostess and instructor for an annual series of cooking classes held in Coltibuono's Renaissance villa. One of her two sons, Roberto is the winemaker for the fabulous Chianti Classico. The other son, Paolo has been our host for many memorable meals.Badia in Coltibuono Homepage
