Forever Friends

John and Hannah were very good friends for quite some time. From the moment they met, all those years ago, there was something there but they were in denial about it. John and Hannah were very much in love with each other, although they couldn’t admit it to themselves, let alone each other. In fact, they each thought the other was only interested in friendship. They spent years seeing other people, none of whom were compatible. So they spent several years secretly in love with each other, yet somehow in denial, and were miserable. But actually thinking about the idea that they might somehow be made for each other seemed like a laughable idea to them. There was always some excuse, like the timing is bad. “Hannah just came off a nasty breakup, she needs me to be a friend.” John thought to himself. “John is a little depressed now, he doesn’t need a girlfriend.” Hannah said to herself. After years of being lonely together they finally got up the nerve to try it. The endless months of being miserable soon disappeared and were replaced by decades of happiness together.
