No Child Left Inside

Once again, it's time to contact your congressperson. This time it's HR 3036, the No Child Left Inside Act. Seemingly innocent, it calls for getting kids to participate in outdoor activities. Since when is it the government's job to tell my kid to go out and play? I'm sure there will be some federal funding for city parks. Sounds good, until you realize federal funding brings with it federal oversight. All we need is Washington running our city parks, and managing our rec leagues. Go to www.house.gov, find you representative, and tell them to vote NO!!!! on HR 3036!

Wednesday is the 221st anniversary of the day 42 guys came out of Independence Hall with 4 sheets of parchment signed by 39 of them. It was the framework for the fledgling United States government, the Constitution. When asked what kind of government the convention produced, Ben Franklin replied, "A Republic, if you can keep it."
Today it seems as though we are doing a horrible job of "keeping it". Repeatedly, the Bush administration has overstepped its bounds, only to be met with firm deriliction of duty from Congress. Checks and balances no more! Both parties conspire against the American people in a power grab. Each looks the other way while the public is slowly but surely being enslaved.
Read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The more people who know their rights, the harder it is to take those rights away.

The Phillies Are Killing Me!

A few days ago, the Phils lost 2 of 3 against the Marlins, dropping them 3 games behind the Mets for the division lead and 4 behind the Brewers, with the Brewers coming in for a 4 game series. The Philadelphian in me couldn't dare hope for a 4 game sweep to tie for the wild card. Well, they did get the sweep and are now tied with the Brewers for the wild card, plus they only trail the Mets by a single game. But again, being Philadelphian I just know they Phils will lose 2of 3 against the Braves and/or Marlins and hand the lead back to the Brewers. Last year's miracle comeback against the Mets was a once in a lifetime thing. I doubt they can do it again. Besides, the team hasn't made the playoffs 2 years in a row in almost 30 years. Why let a good thing end now? In just a few weeks we'll know for sure if they pull it off again. And congrats to Carlos Zambrano of the Cubbies on tossing a no-hitter at the Astros tonight!

New Website Coming Soon!

I am in the process of building my new professional website, joshgoodin.com. It will be my political/campaign site. Sure, I lost the PCO election last month but that won't stop me from getting elected to _____ in the future! I learned something from this last election, but I'm not sure what yet. Moving forward, I am working on a ballot initiative for next year's election. I am also planning on a run for school board in '09, followed by a Congressional run in '010. My political stock is rising, and the establishment has no idea! Today I furthered my agenda by walking in Yelm's parade as a supporter of Randi Becker for state senate. Heather backs her, and I do too. Only the second candidate for any office (besides myself) that I have ever been able to get behind. Working with Randi will give me valuable campaign experience, as well as give me a chance to get to know a few local politicians and put my name out there. I am also working on building a coalition with this year's losers for the Congressional primary to build support (and a campaign team) for my '010 run. John Orlinski, in an email, says it's best to start early. He filed just before the deadline, then had a series of personal issues to deal with that derailed his campaign somewhat. But he got my vote! I haven't mastered politics yet, but I'm learning the basics and giving myself plenty of time and opportunities to practice.

It's quiet, a little too quiet

DQ has been very quiet lately. Usually you can't get him to shut up, but he's just been sitting at a picnic table keeping to himself while we wait for the bus. The only story I have to relate this time concerns the tractor. He was "fixing" it a little while back, and now it's completely dead. It leaks (gushes) oil where he fixed it, and on Sunday (9/7) it wouldn't shut off. The driver had to rip out the fuel line to get it to shut off. Now of course, it won't start up again.

Weird Wednesday Recap

Monster Quest took a look at giant squids, and whether or not they could be the truth behind the myth of the Kraken.
Ghost Hunters Case #1 was local (for TAPS)- the Slater Mill in Rhode Island. They made contact with a 9 year old boy who worked at the mill by using a K2 meter, which lights up when magnetic fields are detected. The ghost was able to light up the meter for "Yes" when asked questions. Playing back the tapes at the end of the investigation revealed a biy shouting "Hello!" when they asked him to shout as loud as he could into their recorder.
Case #2 was an old inn that recently had a fire. They caught no evidence of a haunting, but they did uncover the truth behind the legends at the the building.

Today is 7 years since the last day we were free. On September 11, 2001 our freedom came under direct assault. They attacked us because they hate our freedom. They attacked us so they could push through the (un)PATRIOT Act. The traitors responsible MUST be brought to justice.

Pay My Mortgage Please!

Think by defaulting on your mortgage or going into bankruptcy will get you out of repaying your loan? Think again! Now you're paying your (and someone else's) with your tax dollar. That's right, the government is taking over mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the latest move in a trend of letting irresponsible lenders off the hook for careless business practices. In response, here's the email I sent to my Congressman Dave Reichert (R-WA 8):
In the tradition of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, I am requesting that Congress offer my family a taxpayer funded bailout. Sure, we've made some mistakes over the years and we certainly can recover on our own. However, without a taxpayer funded bailout our finances are such that we can only make a minimal impact on the local economy. A taxpayer funded bailout will strengthen the economy. An appropriation of just $100,000 will get us back into solvency. That's a bargain compared to some corporations! For the price of only one Pentagon toilet seat Congress can jumpstart the economy in Graham, Washington.

DQ Walks the Plank

Saturday DQ was working (!) on building a deck for his side job and he stepped on a loose board and fell through. He was dangling (his words, not mine) and got a bruise on his leg.
Also, DQ is now driving a new riding mower, the Gray Ghost. It came from behind the Camp Lakeview office and probably hasn't been used in years. Why he needs a mower is beyond me.
