Cloak of Night
when the last light of day has burned and pious prying eyes have turned, young fireflies flicker in the trees and crickets chirp their melodies... our fingers find and interlock against the ticking of the clock... time is our foe; true love our friend-- we'll lie together in the end this is the night when we shall test the fates before eternal rest... when moon's pale arc of lonely light is blotted by the cloud of night, make warm my heart and draw me near; let us embrace and linger here beyond the shadows of their doubt... i do not wish to live without the touch of love that dances in the silken surface of your skin and demon dampness of your kiss that stirs the sinful scent of bliss... before sunbeams shave through our guise, exposing well-intentioned lies, let us feel free to love again without the weight of Christian sin... our lives will blend in law and love and in the eyes of One above, for soon together, tied we'll be-- two lovers locked eternally... forever let us fool the sun; it shall not rise 'till we are one.
Author's Note: This is the story of two lovers with teen hearts and ageless love. They are both young like the fireflies who hide in the trees, and like them, the luminescence of their love betrays their location. The night is cold, but it protects them from the eyes of those who feel compelled to watch... In the end, they marry. They finally have justified their love in the eyes of the others... their God and society... *soft smile* A personal fantasy realized through words...
