First Light

"I love you, Jason," I whisper.
"I love you, too," your lips concede.
The heart's devotion knows no bounds
When desire's bred from human need.

My heartbeat echoes love's rhythm,
Though your touch seems so far from me.
Without your love, my stained soul bleeds,
Embraced in tortured misery.

Your soft voice haunts my every dream.
Only in slumber are we near.
I pray in vain that when I wake
I'll find you smiling, lying here.

At sunrise my eyes find nothing.
I lie saddened, alone, awake.
My sole companion, agony,
Enhances my brittle heart's ache.

My thoughts linger in loud silence,
Ringing like bells in vanished night,
Praying that soon, as Man and Wife,
We'll gladly welcome dawn's first light.
