2000The Pana Community Council for the Arts announced that Shades, (not yet online) a short prose piece about the impact of hatred upon lovers due to the colors of their skin, won 1st place prose in their awards ceremony in April. Modern Art, a free-verse piece inspired by the experience of being painted by a dear friend of mine, won 1st place in the poetry category. *smiling softly* On May 4th, during the Honor's Convocation at MacMurray College, I was presented with the Burmeister Award for Poetry--which included a check substantial enough to fill my car with gas for a month, even at the current fuel prices... *grinning* The poem, Split Screen, was influenced by the image of a former flame in Madison... and I thank him dearly for the inspiration... *smiling*
