Rotarians sponsor group for young adults

Four local Rotary Clubs from Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Penasquitos have banded together to sponsor a Rotaract Club for college students and young professionals interested in establishing business contacts while serving their communities.

An informational meeting for young adults ages 18 to 30 living in the inland North County areas will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday October 19 in the Community Room in the Creekside Shopping Center in Poway.   The Community Room is located directly behind the Boll Weevil Restaurant in the middle of the shopping center.

According to Jim Redding, president of the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club, the goal of Rotaract is to prepare college students and young professionals who haven't reached true executive statues yet for a future as full-fledged Rotarians.

The RB Rotary Club has already organized a very successful Interact Club at Rancho Bernardo High School that now has more than 80 members.  The students, in addition to meeting regularly on campus, participate in community service projects throughout the school year.

Rotaract fills the gap between high school Interact Clubs and Rotary, Redding said.  "It's just like a Rotary Club, but for people who don't qualify for Rotary and are too old for Interact," he said.

Rotaract chapters have been established at United States International University in Scripps Ranch, the University of California San Diego, San Diego State University and there is a chapter in downtown San Diego for junior executives.

Rotaract, like its Rotary International affiliate, is dedicated to fostering leadership, high ethical standards in business and international understanding and peace.  It provides young adults with an opportunity to meet professionals and business leaders who can assist with future professional development.
