The God

Horned one of the Wilderness
Winged One of the shining skies
Rayed One of the splenderous Sun
Fallen One of Samhain Cries
I call to you
Lord of the Beasts
Master of all that is Wild and Free
Descend, I Pray
O Ancient One
Send your Glory down!

The Horned One

The god is the lord and master of all wild beasts, mountains and forests. He is the sun, brillant in the midday skies, and rising....setting in the endless cycle that governs life. He is warmth, vitality, the ripened Harvest and the sexual force. The god is born with the sun at Yule and dies with it at Samhain. He is child, then consort to the Goddess in the neverending process of birth, growth, fruition, decay, death, and rebirth.
He is the Horned One, the Sky Father, conjurer of lightning, bringer of rain, and ruler of the distant suns.

Osiris - He was the first child of Geb and Nut. Osiris, (a tall, handsome, charismatic man) succeeded his father Geb as the reigning power of Egypt when Geb retired into the heavens. He married his sister, the beautiful Isis, when he became king. He civilized the Egyptians, persuaded them to give up cannibalism, and taught them farming, and the pleasures of music, and provided them a legal code to live by. His evil brother Set, who was as ugly as he was evil, and who hated his handsome brother because Osiris had fathered a child with Set's wife, Nephthys (another sister!) gathered many allies and planned how to kill Osiris. Set hosted a banquet ostensibly to honor his brother. After much food and much wine, Set had a beautifully ornate chest brought into the room and said it would go to the person who best fit within it. When it was Osiris' turn to try and he had climbed in, Set and his toadies slammed the lid shut and welded it tight with lead. Osiris suffocated, the chest was thrown into the Nile, and Set became king of Egypt. (Oh....but wait! This is a myth! The story doesn't end here!)

Odin - In Norse mythology he is the supreme god; the god of wisdom, poetry, magic, and war. He belonged to the Aesir race of gods. Among his many names is All-father, for he is the father of all the gods. There are two tales about how he acquired great wisdom. One is when he hanged himself on the world tree for nine days and nights and was pierced by a spear. This was a spiritual death in which he sacrificed himself to himself. The second is that he sacrificed an eye for the privilege of drinking from Mimir, the fountain of wisdom. He had two black ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory), who flew forth each day to gather the news of the world to bring back to Odin. His greatest treasures were Sleipner (an eight-legged horse), Gunger (a spear), and Draupner (a ring).

Zeus - In Greek mythology, Zeus was the god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods. He was the rain god, and the cloud gatherer, who wielded the terrible thunderbolt. His breastplate was the aegis, his bird the eagle, his tree the oak. He is represented as the god of justice and mercy, the protector of the weak, and the punisher of the wicked. As husband to his sister Hera, he is the father of Ares, the god of war; Hebe,(no, Archie, she's NOT Jewish! Sheesh!) the goddess of youth; Hephaestus, the god of fire; and Eileithyia, the goddess of childbirth. Zeus' image was represented in sculptural works as a kingly, bearded figure. Zeus corresponds to the Roman god Jupiter.

Pan - Pan was the son of Hermes and Penelope (later married to Odysseus) in some myths and the son of Zeus and the nymph Callisto in others. He was the god of flocks and shepherds. He had the head and torso of a man, but the hindquarters and horns of a goat. He was a great musician with the pipes. He was considered a symbol of fecundity because of his lustful nature. Wasn't Pan the greek's version of the Roman god Bacchus, god of wine? Hey.....I think every man should own a pair of them there Pan type Horns ;)

Hades - He was one of the Olympian gods. He was the son of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea, and the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. When he and his brothers drew lots to divide the world after they had deposed of their father, Cronus, Zeus won command of the heavens, Poseidon of the sea, and Hades of the underworld. He became known as Pluto, the god of wealth, because of the precious metals in the Earth. It was rare for Hades to leave his realm to visit the Earth or Olympus. (His most famous visit to Earth was the time he saw Persephone and carried her off to be his wife.) Although he was a grim and pitiless god, unappeased by either prayer or sacrifice, he was not evil. I'm reading this and I'm thinking "What a bunch of Macho He Man Bull****" But.....such is Greek Mythology ;~)

Horus - "Horus" is the Latin translation for the Greek "Horos", which was the Greek name for the Egyptian "Hor"(good lord!!!). Horus is the falcon-headed solar god. His mother was Isis who conceived him by her magical powers from the body of his murdered father Osiris. He eventually emerges the victor in a contest with Seth as to whom is the legitimate heir to the throne of Egypt.

Anyhoo.....

Apollo - One of the most important Olympian gods; son of Zeus and Leto, twin brother of Artemis. He was concerned with prophecy, medicine (he was the father of Asclepius), music and poetry (he was also the father of Orpheus and the patron of the Muses). He was associated with law, philosophy, and the arts. He sometimes gave the gift of prophecy to mortals whom he loved, such as the Trojan princess Cassandra. He was a master archer and a fleet-footed athlete, credited with having been the first victor in the Olympic games.

Cernunnos - "The Horned One" is a Celtic god of fertility, life, animals, wealth, and the underworld. He was worshipped all over Gaul, and his cult spread into Britain as well. Cernunnos is depicted with the antlers of a stag, sometimes carries a purse filled with coin. The Horned God is born at the winter solstice, marries the goddess at Beltane, and dies at the summer solstice. He alternates with the goddess of the moon in ruling over life and death, continuing the cycle of death, rebirth and reincarnation. Paleolithic cave paintings found in France that depict a stag standing upright or a man dressed in stag costume seem to indicate that Cernunnos' origins date to those times. Romans sometimes portrayed him with three cranes flying above his head. Known to the Druids as Hu Gadarn. God of the underworld and astral planes. The consort of the great goddess. He was often depicted holding a bag of money, or accompanied by a ram-headed serpent and a stag. Most notably is the famous Gundestrup cauldron discovered in Denmark.

Take me Home, you Horny Little God, you!
