The University of Southwark Act, Chapter LXXXVI states;
1. There shall be a degree of Doctor of the University of Southwark.
2. The University may award the degree to persons who have rendered distinguished service to the University or to Morac-Songhrati-Meads in general.
3. A person awarded a Doctorate shall be entitled to use the letters D.Univ (Southwark) following his or her name.
The following distinguished individuals have been awarded a Doctor of the University of Southwark:
Mr Jose Ramos Horta, East Timor
Mr Nelson Mandela, Former President, Republic of South Africa
Mr Eric S. Kildow, Prime Minister, People's Republic of Amador
Ms Aung San Suu Kyi, Democracy Advocate, Burma
