Piccolo, or Ma Junior, is the 'son', of Piccolo Daimao, Kami's evil side and Son Goku's arch rival, who was killed in a fight against Goku. Mostly evil, Piccolo's one goal was to destroy Goku, and to rule the world. Soon after Raditz's arrival, Piccolo found himself in an unusual alliance with his once rival, and upon hearing of the new threat----more Saiyans, Piccolo, having completed his plans and ended up training....and beginning to care for...Son Goku's first son, Gohan.

The first time Piccolo truly showed any care towards the young half-breed was at his death, when he saved Gohan from near-death by sacrificing his own life. In his last words, he professed his friendship and died with honor, and with the satisfaction of knowing that Gohan would make him proud.
