All of the speculation and lip service was put to a end last week when Frazier-Lyde ‘Sister Smoke’ was officially given her boxing license from Pennsylvania Boxing Commissioner George Bochetto. The press conference were held at Joe Frazier’s gym located in the heart of North Philadelphia. It was standing room only for the press and VIP.

"It’s a honor to be here at Joe Frazier’s Gym. The Fraziers contribute so much to the community that often times doesn’t get reported. As the Boxing Commissioner of Pennsylvania, I am proud to have the Fraziers family in Philadelphia. I want everyone to note that Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde received no special treatment whatsoever in granting this license. She has met every requirement that was needed to be met. She is fully capable to box professionally. And we are proud to welcome her to the ranks of Philadelphia’s finest professional boxing family the Fighting Fraziers!" Said Bochetto.

Sitting behind a long table was Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde, Joe Frazier, Marvis Frazier and 11 year old actor Jamie Stafford, who played the young Ali in the Muhammad Ali story. Marvis Frazier conducted the press conference and proudly called his sister up to front and center to receive her boxing license from George Bochetto.

" First I want to thank God for everything that he has done for me. I am very honored to officially be a professional fighter, it’s just a awesome feeling. Now, I can get paid to kick some butt. Not only do I stand here as Joe Frazier’s daughter, but I feel like I am representing all boxers of the world, men and women. And when I come out, I’m coming out smoking. Today is my father 56th birthday and I am presenting this license to him as a birthday gift." Said Frazier-Lyde.

Smokin Joe Birthday

Smokin Joe Frazier enjoys his 56th Birthday with a cake in his likeness!
Joe Frazier was presented with a big decorated birthday cake by his son-in-law ‘Big" Peter Lyde. When asked about his daughter’s plans about fighting, Joe said.

"We want to get some fights underneath our belt and get a little experience. But if I had one guy with the determination and willingness to learn like Jackie, I would have a champion."

There has been a lots of questions about why Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde would enter the ring at this age and what does she have to prove. When Frazier-Lyde heard that Laila Ali (3-0) was fighting, it was quite natural for her to put on the gloves and renewal the classic rivalry that their two famous fathers started. It was like a signal from up above.

" I am a instrument and servant of God. Everything that I have done with my life is to glorify him and that’s why I’m stepping into the ring. Philadelphia is the capital of boxing, so I’m not going to make an embarrassment of myself or the city. If we step into the ring, I’ll whip her butt. Then I’ll pick her up, kiss her, and take her out to dinner and if she wants a rematch, I’ll dust her off and do it again." Said a confident Frazier-Lyde.

Dressed all in black and sporting a sharp black leather jacket, Frazier-Lyde flashed a big colgate smile and looked like she just stepped out of a fashion shoot. Just four months ago she was out of shape and working on numerous court cases, including her father’s lawsuit against some real-estate investors. Frazier-Lyde has always worked for the betterment of Boxing on both the amateur and professional level. She is tired of seeing young men getting " their head shook and their money took" in the boxing business.

Boxing Advocate for all Fighters!

Frazier-Lyde tells the world what she plans to do to her opponents, as her proud father smiles!
"I’ve been a boxing advocate for many years, I was a boxing columnist for the Philadelphia Sunday Sun newspaper. My interests have always been to make a contributions for the improvement in boxing, especially on the business side. I am looking to make it clear that boxers and artists are to benefit from their labor. They should have ownership in their performance. They also need to be aware of what they generate and what their value is." Said Frazier-Lyde.

Now she is being trained by her famous father, Joe Frazier, brother Marvis Frazier and husband Peter Lyde. You can call this arrangement "All in the Family". Frazier-Lyde has been training since October, and is quickly learning the boxing game from inside the ropes. She once weighed over 200 pounds, now she has shred 20 pounds and is looking extremely sharp in her sparring sessions and is hitting the heavy bag with power like her old dad.

"My workout schedule really varies because I have to take care of my three children and I still have court cases to attend to. But I run two miles every morning between 4 and 5 o’clock. I do a lot of stretching being that I am 37 years old, I want to make sure, that I can do everything to minimize any risk of injuries. After that I do 50 or more push-ups and sit-ups. Now I weigh 180 and I’m started to feel good.

Boxing Pro Debut!

On February 6, at the Scranton Cultural Center Frazier-Lyde will be making her boxing debut on the undercard of a title fight featuring undefeated light heavyweight Chris Mills and champion Salvatore Di Salvatore of Switzerland. She will be fighting Teela Reese a tough street fighter from Alaska. Frazier-Lyde will get a guaranteed purse of $25,000 the largest ever for a debut in women’s boxing. But its the fight with Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila Ali that she wants badly.

Frazier Lyde is all business as she talks to reporters!
"I really feel that Laila Ali doe not want to fight me. I believe she knows that I will win. First they question my integrity, by saying ‘Oh, she’s not a boxer, she is a lawyer.’ I don’t know if anyone ever questioned her athletic background? My athletic background is proven. I received an athletic scholarship at American University in basketball where I was captain and MVP of the team. I also played and excelled in lacrosse, hockey and softball. I think that she may be under pressure not to box me, because when I beat her, that’s going to bring down the Ali mystic, that a Frazier dominated an Ali. Maybe that’s why there is no direct response to my challenges. I’ve been challenging Laila Ali since last October, where is her response? She needs to box me or get out of the game. Because this is serious business. I’m not joking about this. Laila Ali, please, please be ready, because I am coming for you!" Said a determine Frazier-Lyde.
