Untitled As Yet- Chapter Four

I tossed and turned most of the night. Flipping one way and then the other, I couldn’t seem to doze off. Finally, I just lay on my back and claimed defeat.

“Are you all right?” asked Jadeite, startling me. I sat up.

“Have you been awake all this time?”

“No, but you sure are loud.” he replied.

“I can’t fall asleep.” I answered.

“Is something wrong?”

“No, well, I guess so.” and then I realized why I couldn’t go to sleep. “I can’t get to bed knowing that Kunzite isn’t nearby.” Jadeite smirked. I expected him to make a snide comment, but all he said was,

“You guys have achieved a, uh, a very close relationship.” Uh oh, I thought. Jadeite will tell Queen Beryl, and then both Kunzite and I will be thrown out of the Dark Kingdom, or at least demoted.

“Certainly not.” I said, trying to keep a straight face. I was sure that sweat was forming on my forehead.

“Okay, fine, whatever.” he responded. It was obvious he didn’t believe me at all.

“Really.” I was doomed.

“Okay.” he replied, with more conviction.

“Good.” Then I rolled over to think about how stupid I had been. A few minutes later, Jadeite sat up.

“Zoisite?”

I turned over. “Hmm?”

“I wouldn’t have told anyone.”

“There’s nothing to tell.”

“Fine, be that way.” he said irritably. Was he trying to act friendly? I couldn’t figure it out, so I merely rolled over and spent the rest of the night figuring out what to say in the morning.

I concluded that I had been rude, and an apology was necessary. In the morning, as the sun was rising, and Jadeite was beginning to stir, I turned to him and said, “I’m sorry for how I acted last night. I was just scared, do you know what I mean?”

“Of course. No hard feelings.”

“Thanks.”

The rest of the day was fairly uneventful. A countless number of collector crystals had been filled, so we felt that an early return was acceptable. My heart leapt in ecstasy. I would be with Kunzite soon.

Jadeite held the honor of teleporting our threesome back into the Dark Kingdom.

Our first act upon returning was reporting to Beryl. We appeared in front of her throne and were met with approving looks. It was very rare for someone to please the queen, so Jadeite, Nephrite and I glowed with pride. After a few complimentary comments, Queen Beryl dismissed Jadeite. Then she turned toward Nephrite and me.

“I am aware of a little rivalry between you two.” she stated. “I must tell you, Zoisite, I do not applaud your homicidal tendencies as for dealing with anger.” Nephrite smiled at me cynically.

“Don’t think I’m not let down by your actions as well, Nephrite. I’ll be watching you two. Dismissed.”

Jadeite had waited for us outside the throne room.

“What was that about?” he asked.

“The queen does not ‘applaud Zoisite’s homicidal tendencies’.” Nephrite said with a leer at me, before I could speak.

“Well, she’s ‘let down by your actions’, Nephrite.” I said contemptuously.

“I think we’ve had enough time together.” Jadeite remarked. We all went our separate ways.

Instead of teleporting to my own dwelling, I proceeded to Kunzite’s residence.

“Back so soon?” he asked.

“We were very successful.”

“I’m glad.” he answered with a smile that turned my heart to liquid.

“I missed you.” I professed. He sat down and pulled me towards him. I sat on his lap and he fingered a lock of my hair.

“I missed you as much as a fish misses water,” I began. “as much as a bird misses flying, as much as”

“As much as I missed you.” Kunzite finished.

“Mmmm.” I sighed. The sleepless night before finally caught up with me, and presently I fell asleep in my teacher’s arms.

Well, that's the end of what I've done so far. Come back later and check on the new stuff.
