Prologue

Red and blue flashes reflected in the growing puddles as rain graced the crushed sheet metal. Echoing voices yelled out desperate calls for life. A black Porsche and its youthful driver; gone in an instant with one misturn of the wheel. Motionless she stood, frantically observing the outcome of tequila. Fists clenched tightly as a body bag was brought to the scene. No one noticed her. No one asked for her name. She could run, hide from the tragedy of her mistake. But she couldn’t escape the sight of someone paying her price. The mistaken fatality with a heavy heart she knew that bag was supposed to be for her, or at least it should have been.

A tow truck cleared away the shattered existence of an innocent victim. He had a future, endless possibilities which will never be. Robbed of his life he had no choice but to succumb to the miscalculated demise. He was meant to live; far too young and carefree to die the looming darkness set in. All was over and nothing could be done to change that. No turning back.

The metal chains clinked into place around her wrists as she was drawn away from her creation. No respect for the lost life she witnessed the body bag tossed into an ambulance and driven away to be examined. There was a family, a group of loved ones, who would soon learn that their precious boy was not coming home.

Nothing more valuable than this breath she took and the beat of her heart. Alive, she resented existence. A criminal she would be contained but she should be killed. Unfairly she sat in the police car. She should be dead; she shouldn’t receive the chance to live her life. Indebted she faced her undeserving future. Prison bars and isolation. A cage confining her remorseful mind.
