As we are studying Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, yr 3 in IVE (Tsing Yi), Hong Kong. We are
doing a final year project about Railway Signaling. Our supervisor Mr. David Chan is willing us to do
a web site aimed on railway signaling in Hong Kong. The objective is "How should a post graduated
but non-degree holder does in order to be a railway signaling engineer of IRSE?"
Through out the process, we are getting much more familiarize about the history of railway signaling
and the signaling system used in Hong Kong nowadays.
According to the Railway Development Strategy 2000,a spokesman for the Transport Bureau said: "Upon
completion of the 12 new railway projects by 2016, our present railway network will expand from the
current 143 km to over 250 km and the rail share in public transport from about 30 per cent to nearly
45 per cent.
He added that about 70 per cent of the population, and about 80 per cent of job opportunities would be
within walking distance of a railway station.
As we can see that railway industry is a large heavy industry, so to develop a sophisticate
railway-signaling system is a must. Therefore we do believe that after we have finished our project,
we have got more knowledge about it. As railway-signaling industry is growing up to have a huge and
bright future, within the only exist heavy industry in Hong Kong.
At last, there are many overseas branch company that developed transportation technology in Hong Kong,
such as Siemens, Alcatel and Alstom. They all have railway department inside their company, also the
contractor and sub-contractor of both MTRCLC and KCRC were interested in graduates who are
familiarize with railway industry.
We hope you will enjoy surfing our homepage, thank you for your kind attention.
