Who Am I?

Born in Fall River, MA, I was raised in a small town called Portsmouth (history), in one corner of the smallest state in the country...Rhode Island. Having lived there my entire life, I never fully appreciated the beauty of that area until I moved away for college. I have some pics if you care to see them.

When I was younger I was completely fascinated with elevators. I thought that when I was older I would work with them somehow, that I would be an elevator technician, or something like that. At the same time, my brother Jim was really getting me into flying. My first flight was with him and my grandfather, at about the age of seven. By the age of thirteen I had been up in small planes numerous times. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but never thought of doing it professionally. But, in the spring of my thirteenth year, I took a trip to Orlando, FL with my best friend. It was my first time in a big plane, and it utterly enthralled me. From that very first flight I knew that I wanted to fly for a living.

It is amazing how such an important decision can be made in the blink of an eye. That very flight is pretty much the reason that I ended up in Tennessee. During my Junior year of high school, I was doing an online college search. By chance I stumbled upon Middle Tennesee State University. It wasn't the location, nor the prestige of the university that attracted me, but rather its price tag. Most of the universities that I was looking at costed about 20 to 30 thousand dollars per year. MTSU runs an average of 6 or 7 thousand a year. So because of one simple flight to Florida, and a chance internet college search, I chose to be 1200 miles from home, in Murfreesboro, TN. But before I left I began the first step on the road to a career as a professional pilot. The summer before my senior year in high school, I began flight training. By Thanksgiving, after only 5 months and 40 hours of flight training, I had earned my private pilot certificate. But, as I was preparing for college, another big event was taking place in my life.
