Going Home
The Devastation of the Korean War, 1950 - 1953
The United States suffered 36,934 dead and 103,284 wounded.
Up to 4 million Koreans, two thirds of them civilians, died.
China lost an estimated 1 million soldiers.
In the winter of 1950, temperatures on the battlefields plunged to 35
below zero. The winter of 1951 was not better.

America's almost forgotten war, when its
remembered, it is often with
black-and-white film footage of Marilyn Monroe and Bog Hope visiting
applauding troops,
or General Douglas MacArther defying his president and vowing to chase
the
Chinese across the Yalu River. Some say it was merely a "police
action".
Fifty years later, it is nearly invisible, except to those who were
there.
That was a long time ago and we never discussed what happened in Korea.
Nobody asked, now I try and remember.
