I chose this particular shot to animate first because it's "simple:" a basic head rotation, a simple camera move, and little lipsynch to worry about. It also encompassed and complete line of the song, so it would work as a short film clip.

Plus, the Phantom's such a HUGE tease in this shot and I just get a kick out of that :-)
