Sometime In The Spring Of
1952,
They Thought The North Koreans Were
Going To Make A May Day Push (A
World Holiday Of Some Kind). They
Ordered A Group Of Us To Go South
Of Seoul Around 75 Miles and
Set-Up A Mountain Top Station As
They Expected The Enemy to Make
A Push South And Recapture The
Capitol Of Seoul And More. Anyway,
When We Reached The Bottom Of
This
Mountain We Had To Climb It
On Foot (As Usual). The First
Day,
With Koreans Helping Us, We
Hauled Up Equipment And Tents.
The Distance Must Have Been About
5 Miles. That Night A Terrific
Storm Came In. It First Started To Rain.
About Two Hours Later It Started
To Blow. Before The Night Was Over,
We Were Hanging On For Dear Life
To A Piece Of Tarp Over Us (There
Were Around Eight Of Us Up
There).
When Morning Came And The Long
Night Was Over, We Looked Around
And Saw Total Destruction. Most
Everything We Had Hauled Up There
Was Gone. We Got A Radio Going
And Contacted The Base Station.
They Said They Would Start Sending Up
More Equipment. We Said We Needed
Food, Not Equipment, And A Big
Argument Ensued. Anyway, After
Much Arguing They Did Send Us Food.
We Were Told Later What Went
Through
Was A Typhoon.
