Chapter Six: To Gondor!

The great host trudged on. Morale was low among the men. Scouts reported that Orcs were nearby, but no sign of them had been seen, except for the foul defacements that marked the trees. This made the men very uneasy, and they were only held to their course by their leaders, Tuor of Dol Amroth, Daetirion, and Captain Althamus. But the march would not last much longer. They were nearing their target: a town called Amril, besieged by the enemy. The steward of Minas Tirith felt that no aid could be spared for such a small town, so it was abandoned. Hearing of this, the generals decided that they would march to its aid. As the generals climbed the last hill before the valley the town was in, they began to see smoke. The town had been overrun and was burning. Now the Orcs that had done the deed camped in the valley, unawares to the approaching army. “It seems we are too late,” said Captain Althamus. “We may be too late for the town, but we can still take revenge on the evil beasts,” said Daetirion, “Prepare to charge!” And soon, battle cries in Westron, Elvish and Dwarvish echoed through the valley, as the great army charged.

Tuor and his Swan Knights hit the Orcs first. One Orc leaped on to a Swan Knight and dragged him to the ground. Althamus ran up from the rear and shot the Orc before it could even get up. Tuor slashed an Orc in the face, while Daetirion decapitated another. The rest of the army followed them, cutting a swathe through the Orcs. Soon, the beasts were broken, and the host had cut through to the town. “Victory!” cried Tuor,” we have victory!”. “Let us make camp and celebrate!” shouted Althamus.

As night was falling, a band of men approached the camp. “I have returned!” shouted the man at the head of the column. The generals rushed outside, eager to see what the noise was. “Woodpecker?” asked Tuor, confused. “Yes it is I. We were defeated in our attempt to make our way inside Mordor. It seems the enemy is stronger than we had expected. But, it was not a total loss. We stumbled upon a valuable new ally. His name is Colonel Gravis,” Woodpecker said. A man clothed in the armour of Gondor stepped forward and bowed. “I am honoured to join your company,” Gravis said. “We are pleased to have you,” Daetirion said, “but as we were speaking, I have seen a light in the distance.” “That is a beacon of Minas Tirith! We must make haste!” exclaimed Captain Althamus. “Tell the men to break camp. We ride at dawn,” Tuor commanded.
