Epilogue: The Tale of Tuor

Tuor paced around the now flowering White Tree on Minas Tirith’s seventh level, anxious to what the Council of Gondor wanted to see him for. “The King will see you now,” a young retainer informed him. Tuor turned and entered the throne room looking an entirely different man in his civilian clothes. The lords of Gondor looked up to see him. “Rise Tuor,” spoke Aragorn to the knight, now on one knee. “You have served the free peoples of Middle earth well throughout this war, Tuor. It saddens me to hear that you wish to leave Minas Tirith.” “War takes its toll on a man my liege, and I long to see the swan city again,” replied Tuor. “Indeed, indeed,” murmured Aragorn. “But what will you do after? I have need of a strong general to help me cleanse the remains of Mordor’s stench.” “I intend to return to my homeland, my lord, to my wife and family. And after that I intend to settle in Dol Amroth to build ships.” “It is right for you to do as you wish. You shall receive enough money to let you live a very comfortable life. Thank you, Tuor,” replied Aragorn. Tuor turned to walk away.

“Wait,” put in Imrahil. “I have a proposition for you Tuor.” The swan knight looked up. “I shall be away with our king fighting in lands to the east and I shall need someone to look after my fair city. You have already proved yourself an apt leader of men. Would you act as a steward of Dol Amroth in my stead and instruct my son in the way of the city?” “I would be honoured my lord,” the knight responded.

So Tuor was appointed Lord of the Steward tower, a lord of Dol Amroth where he and his family prospered. His parting from Woodpecker as he left the White City was hard. They had been together from the beginning, leading the Grand Host of Light from a small rabble to a large army. Tuor made Captain Althamus swear to come and visit him in Dol Amroth and bade a sad farewell to all the generals he had served with in the host. The Grand Host of Light had been through it all and survived but they now broke, never to come fully together again.
