Clash of the Champions II : India vs Great Britain – Results

The evening of Sunday the 30th of January saw some of the finest action packed martial arts World Title bouts at hotel Durga International in Nasik road as India and Great Britain faced one another for World Championship Titles. Sunil Khakolari the village boy from Nagaland lasted 7 rounds out of a scheduled 8 round World Title bout with Amateur Full contact rules before the referee stopped the bout due to excessive bleeding.His British opponent Marty Wilson won the WKL and WFKKO World Title Belts.Marty displayed some excellent boxing skills while Sunil tried to counter them with some powerful kicks but Martys conditioning and stamina proved to be much superior to sunils and his flurry of quick boxing combinations led the referee to stop the bout in round 7. In the ladies World Title bout Kerry Louise defeated Mamta Sharma in round 4 as the British lady kickboxer proved to be a much more superior fighter.Mamta - a Bombay kickboxer was a last minute replacement fighter for Poonam “the terror” Gill as she had to withdraw from the fight because of a training injury in December.

Alan "The Bull"

Next up the local hero Samson “The Cobra” Joseph faced Britains Leigh Butler an excellent fighter from the GB squad.Samson entered the arena with his trademark style as he jumped through the fireworks set for his entry.In an interview before the fought the cobra said “I WILL be the World Champion today.Both fighters displayed excellent grappling , striking and submission skills and the packed arena audience was up on their feet throughout the bout.Samson lived upto his nickname "The Cobra" as he "snaked" his way to get out of some deadly ju-jitsu locks and holds exectuted by Leigh Butler -Samson then impressed the judges with some excellent punching , kicking and reversal techniques and won the World Title in Kick jutsu.Samson received 2 World title belts for his victory.During the presentation ceremony The Cobra very emotionally revealed to the spectators that before he entered the field of Kickboxing he was suffering from Epilepsy and that it his belief in his Lord Jesus Christ that which has helped him to overcome the dreaded disease and become the World Champion. The final bout of the evening saw The rematch superbout between Nashiks Alan “The Bull”Fenandes facing off against the reigning British and World Kickboxing Champion Shaun “The Rock” Gray.Alan had lost to Shaun on 24th September in Rotherham England during their first face-off and this looked like it was going to be a much awaited grudge match that everyone was waiting for , both fighters cautiously waited for the other to strike first as rain started to pour down at the sound of the opening bell of the bout.It was a kickboxing versus Ju-jitsu fight as Shaun and Alan exchanged technique for technique to the delight of the crowd.At one point in the match the referee had to pause the fight and request the enthusiastic spectators to step away from the ring as their chants of “India , India “ rang throughout the Hotel area and beyond.At one stage of the bout Shaun applied a very painful technique called the “Arm bar” which if applied correctly can snap the elbow join of anyone in two – shaun applied the lock on alan with full force and it seemed that the fight was going to be over – Alan held on to shaun during the technique and was quick enough to escape from this very painful lock by using a counter of his own.No wonder he is known as the "Bull" - "he seems to feel no pain" Alan won 2 World Title Belts as well as a trophy for the “best fighter” of the “Clash of the Champions II”.During the presentation ceremony after all the bouts the British National coach in his official speech said “I consider my fighters to be the finest in the World – India , today we’re equal”[referring to GB and India winning 2 World Titles each at this event

Samson "The Cobra"

A week has passed after the COTC II event concluded but everyone is still taking about the Rematch Superbout between Shaun and Alan Grandmaster Solomon Isaac and Mr Gorakhnath Balkawde gave away the World Title Belts to the winners and medals to the runner up fighters.Alan Fenandes has now been invited to London in march to fight for the IKF World Thai Boxing Title in the heavyweight category against Andy Kypriano while Samson Joseph has been invited to Rotherham UK in September for “Title Night II” for another World Kickboxing Championship event.

The entire Indian crowd watching this last main event bout broke out into a thunderous applause for Shaun “the rock” when Daniel Isaac announced that Shaun had been dealing with a very traumatic time in his life and it was just his strong will which brought him to India for this Rematch.After the show Shaun and Alan have become great buddies and have decided to end the “Bull versus Rock” feud.In an interview to the AIKC just before the British team flew back to the UK shaun and alan had this to say “We are considering becoming a tag team now and hope to take on Daniel and Cris in our debut tag team bout”[both burst out laughing].
