April Checklist

Inventory and replace as needed

Check for needed repairs:
loose drawer pulls
sagging hinges on cabinets and doors
check for loose towel bars

repair squeaky floors
replace loose or damaged floor tiles
check and level appliances
broken light fixtures
broken electrical outlets and switches
check under sink for leaks
check electrical cords on small appliances

Garage
twice yearly
Repairs:

Inspect for insects and rodents. Treat.
Check garage doors. Repair and oil.
Check door and window locks. Repair and lubricate.
Cabinets- loose drawer pulls, sagging hinges on cabinets and doors, and check legs
check shelving for sagging
check caulking below windows
broken light fixtures
broken electrical outlets and switches
check for broken window panes
check window glazing
check all electrical cords
check and maintain power tools

Clean windows.
Clean light fixtures.
Clean walls and shelves with damp broom.
Wash shelves.
Wash containers and other items setting out in the open.
Paint as indicated.
Vacuum smoke alarms/ replace batteries.
Treat stains on the floor.
Clean rugs and mats.
Dump and cull storage spaces

Laundry Room
Quarterly
Check machine hoses
Check dryer exhaust tube and vent for debris and lint
Make sure exterior vent door closes tightly when not in use

Office/Paper
Quarterly
Delete out dated files on the computer
Uninstall programs you no longer use on your computer
Make back-up of computer files
Organize computer files. Zip or transfer to CD or disk rarely used files.
Organize paper files
Organize pictures in your scrapbook or photo boxes

*Work on spring maintance list.

PLANNING

Make reservations if planning to eat out on Mother's Day
Make or purchase cards for Mother's Day
Organizing Kitchen
Create zones
  • Food preparation: long area near sink (items for washing, mixing and seasoning )
  • Hot zone: near stove (pots, pans, cooking utensils, hot pads)
  • Baking: anywhere (cookie sheets, cake pans, canisters, mixer, etc.)
  • Cleaning: cleaning supplies
  • Dish: near sink (daily dishes, silverware, glasses, etc.)
  • Food serving: near where you eat (tablecloths, placemats, salt and pepper shakers, etc.)
  • Pantry: dry storage of cans and paper supplies
  • Kid's Arts and Crafts: near table (paints, paintbrushes, clay)
  • Message area: mail, school papers, bill paying, files
  • Homework: pencil sharpener, pencils, pens, erasers, paper, etc.
Place items together near where they are used.
Move activities out of the kitchen such as homework or bill-paying to free up room
Usage areas
  • Place items used daily within an arms reach
  • Place items used couple times a week or less within the area you can reach by squatting or stretching
  • Place items used a couple times a month in the areas requiring a foot stool
  • Move seasonal items to storage. Make a list of where you have stored the items for reference
