Move seasonal clothes to storage: polish shoes and resole if needed. Wash or dry clean, and mend clothes. Store in airtight containers with moth repellent.
Toss worn, out dated or stained clothing.
Organize closet:
Measure clothing rod and compare to amount of clothing needed storing. Buy multiply hangers for pants and tops or plan to store less used clothing elsewhere.
Sort clothing and give away or toss clothes that don't fit, damaged beyond repair, don't flatter or out of style.
Move sweaters, jeans, and sweats to drawers if need more room.
Fold all clothing that goes into drawers and measure drawer space. Buy trunks, baskets, etc. to store the overflow.
Snip a swatch of fabric from an inside seams of clothes and store in a photo wallet for reference when making new purchases.
