U.S. Federal Route 51 runs north-south very briefly through the northwest corner of Shelby County. A by-pass around the town of Mowweaqua was complete in late 2003. The by-pass actually ends just indside the Chiristian/Shelby County Line. Pictures of consturction and the completed by-pass (from Shelby and Chirstian County) are below.
U.S. Rt. 51 also passes through the southwestern tip of Shelby County. This is near the town of Oconee. U.S. Rt. 51 does not pass through any towns in Shelby County. U.S. Rt. 51 is not multi-plexed in Shelby County. U.S. Rt. 51 does not intersect any highways in Shelby County.
