The EngagementWell, by now everyone (or almost everyone) is aware that Angela and I are engaged. It happened on Friday September 27th, 2002. I thought I would describe in some detail just how it all happened. I'll start the story form Saturday September 21st when I finally had the ring in my possession. Here's how it goes...

I was with Ang in Winnipeg on the 21st. She was away at a course she was taking for university and I was "killing time" all day. After running around the city doing odds and ends I finally had the ring. I now had to find a place to hide it. I decided that under the driver's seat would be a good place. Once we arrived back in Altona that night (the ring had not been discovered) I was in a panic about where to put it. I decided to leave it under the seat of the car. My real fear was that the one day I left anything in the car it was going to get stolen. Alll goes well.
I manage to hide it in the house on Sunday while Ang is showering and now begin to think of what I am going to do. I decide that I'll take her out to dinner the following Friday. So to throw Ang off the trail I ask her if we can go to Winnipeg on Friday so I can buy her a birthday present. (We were supposed to be going to Portage.) She agreed and I was on my way. I make reservations at a very fancy restaurant called 529 Wellington.

Later that week as Ang and I were sitting around she thought I could maybe take her out for dinner somewhere nice. I said that would be no problem. (She was making this too easy for me.) The next step I took was to rent a theme suit for the night complete with champagne, chocolates, flowers, and breakfast for two in the morning. Friday finally arrives. I manage to make it through the day slowly counting the hours down until the big event. We get into Winnipeg and eventually to 529 Wellington. Ang is busy telling me about her day and I put my two cents in. The whole dinner as Ang talked I just nodded as though I was listening but really was thinking 'When am I going to do this?'. After the dinner I gave the camera to the host at the door while Angela was away from the table. After she came back I said I was going to the washroom. My next move was coming around the corner, ring in hand, kneeling beside her and asking her to marry me. She said yes and the restaurant gave us a bottle of champagne to enjoy.

After we left I told her that we were also staying in Winnipeg and by the next morning we were engaged and spent hours on the phone telling everyone the exciting news.
That is the whole story of our engagement and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed telling it.
