The above promo picture was the basis for the composite graphic on the preceding page. Here's how the magic happens:

I started with a scan of a glamour shot taken at a college cabaret function. I then isolated the image of myself and by selectively desaturating and recolorizing, I came out with the lovely white suit/ teal shoes and shirt combination, a get-up Sonny Crockett would be proud to call his own.

Since sonny's Daytona was blown up in the original series run, and the reliability of early white Testarossas is somewhat sketchy, I decided on this image of a lime green Lamborghini copy and pasted from the web, then removed from its original background. You can see the reflection of a magazine in the mirror, which I could edit out.  Using  separate layers for sky, ocean, and sand (which I copy and pasted from three different pictures on the web), I recreated a beach background, and then added the above layers, with the palm trunk and Tubbs from the original picture added in.

The Miami Vice '03 logo was updated by adding a bevel and gloss effect to the letters and adding a soft glow, the same technique used to create the banner. Finally I added some shadows to bring the layers together, and adjusted the coloring and hue on Whalen and Tubbs to match them more closely together. I also added a quick ode to Phil Collins. For a more professional image, I would create a shadow of the tree trunk and texture-map it across the hood and windshield of the car, blend Whalen and Tubbs into the background a little better, give Tubbs a full right foot, and soften the color on Whalen's shoes to a less neon-like consistency. I would also give Whalen a right arm, and some sunglasses to complete the effect.
