CARTERS AND STRICKLANDS - PICS & RELATIVES
Wayne Carter married Ramona Williams. Ramona Williams is the daughter of; Florence Grumbo/Williams and Le'Roy Williams. Ramona is half-Chippewa. Wayne and Ramona had many children together. They lived in North Dakota for much of their lives.
Children of Wayne and Ramona (Williams) Carter:
Wayne Carter married Ramona Williams in 1944. As you can see they had 10 children together. Wayne and Ramona divorced in 1963. Ramona married a Walter Foster in 1964. As far as I know, they had no children together. Ramona later re-married Wayne Carter in 1984. I believe Wayne Carter was born in Nebraska.
Doris was born in 1921 in Yankton, South Dakota, to the parents of Florence Grumbo and Murl Murray Brougham. Merle died 6 weeks after his daughter was born due to complications from diabetes. Merle and Florence were never married to our knowledge.
Murl Murray Brougham, last name pronounced, Brockummm, was born in Nebraska in about 1895. 1920 Census shows Murl as being 25 years old, working as a Drayman (hauled things for a living, much like what a truck driver would be today) in Yankton, South Dakota. Murl and Randy Anderson both worked as Drayman, and Randy was Della Grumbo's husband, step-father to Florence Grumbo, and Florence was the mother of Doris Brougham.
Murl Brougham was the oldest of 4 boys.Murl and Kenneth were twins. There was, Murl, William L, Kenneth and Rufus Brougham. Murl, and Kenneth, William were all born in Nebraska. Rufus Brougham was born in South Dakota, presumably, Yankton. Murl's mother's name was, Della. According to sources, these Brougham's came out of Indiana, probably migrated from New York. Murl's father is unknown at this time, but Census records show that Murl's father was born in Indiana. 1920 census list Murl's mother, Della, as being widowed. This is all I have on Murl Murray Brougham at this time. Any additonal info would be aprreciated.
Doris Brougham married Edward Harold Strickland, aka Harold, aka Bud. This was Harold's 2nd marriage. His 1st marriage was to a woman named Mae or Maye. They had 2 children together, a boy and a girl. Do not know the boy's name, but the girl was named Darlene Strickland, and believed to have been born in Nebraska. Doris and Harold Strickland had 11 children all together. Some settled in the Dakota's, and some in other states, as far west as Washington state.
Harold worked at a munitions dump for a while and later as a Carpenter. Harold and Doris later moved to North Dakota to raise their children. Harold was killed in a car accident, which left Doris alone to care for her children. At some point, Doris became ill and was hospitalized, and the state came in and took the children.
Harold Strickland was born in 1911 in Joliet, Illinois to the parents of John and Ada Belle (phillips)Strickland. John and Ada had a pack children. Last census I have on them showed the following children:
John and Ada Strickland moved from Illinois to Nebraska and raised their children there. They both died in Nebraska. I am still researching this family line, that is related to the Grumbo/Grandbois Indian line through marriage. ANY NEW INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL.
