Hedgehog Hazards (1) |
Many dangers to hedgehogs exist in peoples own gardens. Please look out for any of the examples below and on the following pages and try to prevent an accident from occurring. |
When turning over compost heaps please check first that there is not a hedgehog hiding in the pile. |
Before strimming, always check to see that there are no hedgehogs lying up in the grass you are about to cut. Strimmers cause extremely nasty injuries to hedgehogs. Ones that can easily be avoided! |
Empty tins, yoghurt pots and similar plastic cartons are extremely attractive to hedgehogs who get themselves trapped while trying to retrieve food from them. Always squash the tin closed with the lid inside it. Plastic cartons should be cut up. |
Always check any piles of debris you are going to burn, especially around November 5th, as bonfires are ideal places for hedgehogs to shelter. |
