* Here Is An Example *
Example Cheese: 80 calories
6 grams of fat
5 grams of protein
1 gram of carbohydrate
Fat is 9 calories per gram, protein is 4 calories
per gram and carbohydrates are 4 calories per gram.
Therefore it would look like this:
6 x 9 = 54 calories
5 x 4 = 20 calories
1 x 4 = 4 calories
_________
Total: 78 calories
As you see, there are 2 unaccounted for calories.
It's unknown what they are from, but it's a good
chance those extra calories are from hidden carbs.
Therefore the carb count could be 1.5 instead of
1. It adds up when you eat 10 pieces of this stuff!
Same thing goes for something that says it has no carbs. Check the calories and add up the fat and
protein.
If there are calories left over and there is sugar, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose or any other ose (except for sucralose) in the ingredients, it is in all likelyhood a hidden carb.
Since we eat so much protein on this diet, that could mean a lot when you eat a whole package of those Old Wisconsin Pepperoni sticks that say 0 grams on them! Figure it out, those babies have 0.75 grams of carbs per stick. With 7 sticks per package, that gives you 5.25 grams of carbs for the pack. And here you thought you weren't ingesting ANY carbs!!!
Not exactly something that will kill your diet in and of itself, but with too many of these things, it can definitely cause a stall.
They are everywhere * hidden carbs!
Just when you think you have it figured out, someone has to point out that there's more to it than what the manufacturers would have you believe!
Just remember, though - that for every hidden carb you find, you liberate yourself that much more.
It's not that you can't have these things, but you will be better prepared to make your choices wisely.
