TEENA LIVE IN THE UK 1991

LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH ODEON

REVUE 1
(THE GUARDIAN)

The UK waited 12 years for Teena to hit our shores, but my God - was she worth the wait!! The venue was the "Hammersmith Odeon" (the UK's answer to the Apollo). The tickets for the three nights sold out only hours after going on sale. For me this was the concert I had been waiting for since day one and I COULD NOT WAIT for the night of the show to arrive! When the curtain went up and the band started to play, nobody in the crowd realised that the funky lady playing the guitar was LADY TEE until she started to sing. She was wearing a cap and shades but once she started to sing the crowd realised it was her and went into a FRENZY. It was a very strange happening!! Teena took us all on an emotional rollercoaster ride. She had us in the palm of her hand - greedy and hungry for more and more! Her voice had us standing in ovation when she hit those highs and, when she decided to go walkabout down the middle aisle, it was almost as if royalty was passing by. THE LOVE YOU COULD FEEL IN THE HOUSE FOR TEENA WAS UNREAL! I loved it when she just sat at the piano and asked the crowd what they wanted to hear and then just gave the crowd whatever they wanted. Now thats what I call "SPECIAL AND PERSONAL". She made our dreams come true that night and now we dream of LADY TEE returning to our shores! PLEASE DONT MAKE US WAIT TOO LONG. MUCH LOVE .....SMOOTHYC

These are three revues from the newspapers that I kept as mementoes of the night.

Special Events

After the show my dream was complete, as I had the chance to meet her as she was leaving the theatre. Here is a photo I took of her as she signed some of my record sleeves. I asked her how come it had taken her so long to get here and she said "I'm sorry, I just couldn't get it together". I thanked her for coming over and for a wonderful night. She is truly a beautiful, unique lady and I would love to meet her once more someday, somehow. How we would all love to, hey?
MUCH RESPECT. SMOOTHYC
