This album set the stage of what was to follow , we see the funk , the jazz, those unforgettable melodies , with rick james the stone city band,you got the hard funk sound of that time.
THE classic in this album in my eyes is "De ja vu",20 years on , it still sound fresh and contempary,and you just have to lisern to the crowd , when she performs it live.
"dont look back" the smokey robinson song , done with a whole new flavour and feel.Im gonna have my cake , written by ladyt and marie holland,shows teena in jazz , and boy can she swing , this track is sheer class ,the dance classic , "i,m just a sucker for your love" ,put teena on the map, reaching no 8 in the soul charts ,the album went gold and the world new of Teena Marie , motowns best kept secret ,was out,and who the hell cared what colour she was , the answer to that was simple Knowbody!! , because talent and class conquers all barriers, and music is the answer.
This album was dedicated to her father(Thomas Leslie Brockert) who passed away in 76 , he would have been very proud .
