Kia ora ano te whanau,
Many things have happened since our last AGM in
November 2000. It has been a year of
real progress, which has been made in a
number of different areas.
The 2000 – 2001 accounts from the 1st September
2000 until the 31st August 2001 are attached for your review. These accounts had been duly audited
by Kevin Crombie from AGAR CROMBIE who have been our auditor for the last couple
of years.
In the report we have tried to break down the income and
expenses into more relevant categories for your review. This has allowed us to
try and compare the activity to last year.
Some notable events during the year
- Recipient
of a grant from Pub Charity of NZD 15,000 to for our Whareumu extension.
This money will be used together with the grant from last year to start
the wharepaku upgrade
- We
have received koha from Para Tawhiti Kura and Kotahitanga te Kohanga Reo
for use of marae facilities during
this year. Although there are some monetary value from this arrangement
the real value is in the wairua that having people using the marae each
day for learning of the Te Reo.
- We
had a successful day last year from our final Gala Day held although under
tragic circumstances regard my father’s
mate. This year a very keen group has been working on the new “KAI
FEST” day for the 13th October. Our komiti believe that this
will be an outstanding success.
- Our
new fund raising initiative called the “No Pain Koha” has been running for
about a year now. Five people have contributed a small amount each month
directly into this account. They have managed to raise over 500.00. I
would really like to encourage more of our whanau who don’t live in the area
and who would like to support us in this way.
- During
the mid part of this year we have finally got our Kaihoe Waka course
started. This has meant that we have been using the September and July
months to host up to 7- to 80 students. This has also brought us some
monies. Each hui we receive a koha of $2500.00 and spend about $1500.00
but again the positive spin off to do something with our cousins and
whanau from Tukorehe is the real value
- We
have also started during this year to look at the maintenance activities
that need to be carried out around the marae. I would like to highlight
some key areas of activity carried out
- Purchased
some Totara timber which is located at Uncle Noels whare. This will be
used at some later date in a building project.
- We also
purchased new gas burners for the cook house.
- We
made a significant purchase to get new mops, brooms and cleaning
equipment.
- Two
new hot water units were purchased for the kitchen to give us instant hot
water.
- We
spent the grant from the Raukawa District Maori Council to purchase new
linen.
Our web site continues to move along with little or no cost
to our marae. We have over 2300 people viewing our web site with many people
leaving messages. I would encourage all those who have some access to read some
of the notes left by our visitors, some of them are our whanau members.
My hope that our next twelve months proved even more
eventful and we can see some tangible changes to our marae
