Ngati Wehiwehi KaiFest Stalls

This year we were promoting the theme at our KAIFEST 2001 of kai and heaps of it. We believe we achieved this but we also had a number of other stalls there on the day.

Patumakuku

This stall was displaying and advertising the services of Patumakuku Inc. This education service provider is supported by our cousins from Ngati Tukorehe and employs a number of Ngati Wehiwehi whanau.

Patumakuku Inc has been instrumental in bringing Ngati Wehiwehi and Ngati Tukorehe together. Both marae have supported the Tu Te Wehi Kaihoe Waka course which is being run over 12 months with the majority of the 80 strong class coming from both marae.

Troy Cook with some hot work

Troy was working on one of the stalls selling tuna, sausages, pig on the spit and toasted sandwhiches. As you can see there is a large crowd behind him.

The Pig on the Spit was a real winner on the day... We didn't have time to take the photo before it was all gone.

It was also Aroha's Cooks (Troy's other half) birthday so the crew retired down to their place at Whakahora Road for an excellent evening. I am still not sure what Aroha's age is

Kata and Riro Poike

Kata and Riro ran the drinks stall for the day. We purchased 60 dozen soft drinks and they nearly all sold. Our thanks to Kata and Riro for their support.

Riro and Kata started the Para Tawhiti kura this year at Ngati Wehiwehi which teaches people to speak Te Reo. A number of our whanau attend an evening class learning Te Reo as well.
