Here is another project where I was approached by some fellow enthusiasts
upset about the current reproduction not being accurate at all.
I want to thank fellow hobbyist Brian for mailing me his original.
My buddy Shaun deserves a lot of credit here for his software magic.
Here are the observations I’ve made regarding the current reproduction
of the "early" 70 Jack Decal. Comparison pictures below.
General:
- Alignment and font style of "JACKING INSTRUCTIONS"
- No "PRINTED IN U.S.A."
- Date and part no. should not be in a White box.
- Repro is the wrong size.
Upper Right Area:
- Wrong fonts and terrible alignment.
Upper Left Diagram:
- Wrong alignment and font style of the two lines of text at top.
- Wrong location and arrow for "BUMPER BOLT".
- Wrong location and arrow for "LOAD REST BRACKET".
- Wrong location and arrow for "LEVER".
- Wrong location and arrow for "PIN".
Lower Left Diagram:
- Wrong alignment and font style of the two lines of text at top.
- Wrong location and arrow for "FRONT".
- Wrong location and arrow for "SLOT".
- Wrong location and arrow for "PIN".
- Wrong location and arrow for "REAR".
Lower Right Diagram:
- Wrong location and arrow for "BASE".
- Wrong location and arrow for "SLEEVE".
- Wrong location and arrow for "JACK".
- Wrong location and arrow for "BOLT".
- Wrong location and arrow for "VALVE (DOWN)".
- Wrong arrow for "WRENCH".
Some of these differences are very noticeable, while others are more subtle.
However, it is the little things that make the difference between "correct" and "so-so".
Notice how crisp the body lines and jack lines are in the original and in our product.
Now look at the repro. Our product has addressed all these issues.
These are available on plain paper like the original (you apply the glue) or with peel off
backing for ease of application. Price is $8.00 each which includes shipping
NOTE: - I do not know exactly when the cutoff date was between the
"early" and "late" versions of this, so do your homework accordingly.
