Lord Puck Shadowdrake
I
was born in a log covenstead...oh...you mean my REAL
Craft bio! Oh! Sorry! silly me....!
I'd always been both fascinated and
mystified by
witchcraft. (I remember being so scared by the Wicked
Witch of the West at age 6 that my dinner got cold as an
icecube), but the image of her sailing across the sky
stayed with me. (Later, I learned that most Witches fly
United -- the seats are MUCH more comfortable!)
In High
School, (after a brief bout of Christianity), I
discovered Sybil Leeks' book "Diary of a Witch"
and thought, "Hey, this is COOL!
Now, what???"
I
didn't get the answer to that question until later, when
I joined the Navy after High School. During that time, I
got sent to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey,
CA, attempting to study Vietnamese, when I met an actual
Witch -Moondancer, of the Georgian Tradition - and we
became fast friends.
One
night, he read "The Charge of the Goddess" to
me, and it was as though Someone had said, "HEY!
Listen up - this is important! You need to hear
this!" The more I listened, the more I had toknow
more about this!!
Samhain approached and Moondancer, another student and I
went down to Bakersfield to actually meet his teachers,
including Pat Patterson himself.
That night, during a Sabbat, one Witch accidentally
burned himself on a burning Cauldron after jumping over
it. Quickly, they got him inside and finished the ritual.
Once they got him inside, a quick
impromptu healing circle took place, with everyone
pumping energy to those who could heal him. (I felt as
though it was going around me, and it was the most
incredible experience I've ever felt!)
Once the pain was gone, they took him to the Emergency
Room, where they said he'd burned himself while- (ahem!),
'barbequeing'... (The E.R. didn't ask and they didn't
tell!)
When we got back, I began studying until we had to part
company. (The Navy has a habit of doing this- don't ask
me why...) I went onto another base and later got
discharged and made it back to Michigan.
After about a year and a half of studying more mundane
subjects on my own, I got bored and dropped out to 'find
myself'...and found myself in a Greyhound Bus, heading
out to California!
Having
no other plans, I decided to stop by and say
"Hi!" to the folks I'd met in Bakersfield,
figuring I'd stop by for a day or so. (OK, the 'day or
so' ended up being 6 months 'or so'...time flies when
you're having fun!)
While there, I started my training in the Georgian
Tradition. I ended up spending 13 years in Bakersfield
(aside from several treks back and forth to Michigan),
studying both the Georgian and StarBorn Traditions and
finally getting my Third Degrees in 1985.
When Moondancer and Lady Raven decided to pull up stakes
and move to Washington, I 'inherited' my first Coven, and
was HP of that coven until my own job ended and I
realized that, while living in Bakersfield was nice, it
wasn't where I needed to be anymore.
This
epiphany (plus the generous "Get out of town"
check) made it possible to escape, er, move up to the
Emerald City myself....
(NO, not THAT one - Seattle!) Once there, I got involved
with an established Eclectic Coven, helping them in their
training and became High Priest.
After awhile, as covens do, several of us decided to hive
off and form our own coven - Moondragon Coven.
We lasted 5 years, and got to be active members of the
Northwest Local Council of CoG. After 5 years, both the
coven and my marriage dissolved, and I moved back to
Michigan to re-connect with my family of origin. I
founded the Circle of Glas Dracorum, and served as their First Officer for two years, finally stepping down in 2002. My Coven is still going strong, and has recently celebrated 4 new First Degree Initiations and one 2nd, with more on the way!
Whew!
That was a lot, wasn't it???
Well, you asked!!!
