mike bullard interview with dez
After a well performed version of Tyler’s Song, Dez sat down to talk with Mike Bullard. Here's what they had to say:
Mike B: Ladies and gentlemen, Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber. Yeah. What a sound, loved it.
Dez: Thank you sir.
Mike B: Loved it, loved it. Good to have you here as well.
Dez: Thanks for having us.
Mike B: Now, uh, your playing in Toronto tomorrow, do you know where you are?
Dez: Yeah, at the Warehouse I believe.
Mike B: Yeah, the Warehouse, your going to love it there.
Dez: Yeah, we've been there a couple of times, it's been...great. You guys have all been great to us every time we come out. Thank you so much (fans cheer).
Mike B: Now, are you going to be playing any other Canadian dates?
Dez: I think we have something else but I’m not sure yet. No, I try not to ask where we're going or where we've been. Just...
Mike B: Right, because you don't want to make any trouble.
Dez: No sir, no way. No trouble.
Mike B: Alright, now I got to ask you, coming across the border...?
Dez: Uh, they've been good to us. Yeah they've been good to us.
Mike B: No problems at all?
Dez: No, no no just give us our passports and go. We only had one thing happen...once but...
Mike B: What happened?
Dez: Our bus got torn apart for about four hours. But...
Mike B: No kidding, huh?
Dez: No kidding, no kidding.
Mike B: What were they lookin for, shoes?
Dez: Uh. Lookin for shoes and socks. Pixie sticks and lollypops.
Mike B: Ah hah! Okay. Alright, now...after the first c.d. you toured for nineteen months straight.
Dez: Yes sir.
Mike B: ...which is unbelievable. Do you enjoy the life on the road or does that kind of thing get to you?
Dez: Uh, you know, it's the only thing I know. It's the only thing we all know and...uh...that's what we love to do...so...you know we were home for about two weeks recently and there's nothing to do at home but just sit there...so...cause of what we do.
Mike B: Yeah you don't look like the kind of guy who's good at just sitting around.
Dez: No sir I'm not. Ah heh!
Mike B: You look like a guy who's always looking for action.
Dez: Yes sir, always looking for action. Ah hah!
Mike B: What's the sweetest thing about the success of your band?
Dez: This right here (points the audience) All these people right here (Dez gives them a clap and a wave). You know I mean it, it sounds almost cliché in a way. People say it all the time but when you come to a town time after time and you play for 50 people, then 300 people then 1000 people it just gets amazing and that’s the kind of thing we like.
Mike B: That’s good to know. Now, you just got back from New Orleans?
Dez: Yes sir.
Mike B: Now, do you live down there?
Dez: No, I just got a really good friend down there. I went...uh...junk shopping for my house. Bought some voodoo paintings and some crazy...uh...chairs for my house and stuff like that.
Mike B: Mmm hmm...that’s the place to get it.
Dez: Stuff you can only find is in New Orleans.
Mike B: I was just down there last week.
Dez: Great!
Mike B: Yeah, I was there for Marti Gras.
Dez: Wha’d ya do?
Mike B: I...uh...
Dez: Uh (he made a drinking kind of motion)
Mike B: ...lifted up my shirt a couple of times, come home with a lot of beads. You know what I’m saying?
Dez: Show me it! Yeah!
Mike B: Yeah there’s some on camera two.
Dez: You brought some beads back? Good deal.
Mike B: Yeah, I came home with more beads then the best lookin’ chick you ever saw.
Dez: Ah hah hah! She’s right here. Heh heh! (pointing to some girl beside him who was interviewed before Coal Chambers performance).
Mike B: Yes, there’s the best lookin’ that’s right that’s the best lookin’ Very good Dez. Very good.
That girl: I love him.
Mike B: Now do you have a...you guys are a metal band.
Dez: Yes sir.
Mike B: But do you have a favorite metal band of your own?
Dez: Uh...Pantera, White Zombie...yeah Tool, I mean just raised on all the good ones basically.
Mike B: White Zombie...yeah that’s me on Tuesday’s.
Dez: There you go. That’s me on Thursdays.
Mike B: Really?
Dez: Yeah. Absolutely!
Mike B: Alright no, I want to that you very much for coming by and I want you to know you guys are more than welcome any time your in the city.
Dez: Thank you sir for having us.
Mike B: You’ve been a real gentleman as well. I just want you to know that.
