Latest findings from Effie Cushing (Urquhart Researcher): "Jessie was born Janet (the same names in Scotland) Her niece (my aunt) was also born Janet but was always Jessie. Jessie was born in 1841, the next living child not recorded in the census til 8 years later, followed by several other children. In my searches the birthplace has always been Kincardine. Kincardine is the parish, Croick a section of the parish including the tiny hamlets of Kilmachalmag, Baddarach (where Jessie lived in the 1851 and 1861 census), Achnahant, and a sheep farm. I have from Scots Origins the marriage banns for Donald Urquhart and Janet McDonald (spelled with an ac) in Nov. 1840 . I hope to get to Scotland in June and obtain the certificate which hopefully but not necessarily because of the early date would have the parents names. I believe Janet was the daughter of William McDonald and Christy McLean. Donald has me stumped. I assume his father was Alexander since that was the name given his first son listed in the 1861 census."
Kincardine Cemetery, Parish of Kincardine, Rosshire, Scotland.
Death certificates confirm Janet to be the daughter of William MACDONALD (Crofter) and Christina MACLEAN, but Donald URQUHART (Farmer) was the son of John URQUHART (Farmer) and Christina MaCRAE.
